In the Medicine & Health program, students experienced a significant time with leadership facilitator Vital Akimana. He gave the students a session on building empathy and perspective. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings, emotions, perspectives, and experiences of another person, often without directly experiencing those feelings oneself. With this lesson, they were grouped in twos and used strings to learn how to break free with one another. Vital gave this to them as an example to learn how to ask for help. Even though there are times where you think you have everything together it is always good to ask for help when needed. Through this session, students were able to help one another after Vital helped one group which gave them insight to help each other which can help them in their future as people and within their careers.
